CONGRATULATIONS TO SENIOR PROF. KAPILA PERERA ON HIS NEW APPOINTMENT AS THE SECRETARY TO THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

The University of Moratuwa is delighted to announce of the appointment of former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, Senior Professor Kapila C.K. Perera as the Secretary to the Ministry of Education who assumed duties in the new post on 17th August 2020. Prof. Kapila Perera obtained his first degree from the University of Moratuwa in 1986 and obtained his Masters and PhD from the University of California. University of Moratuwa owes many of its greatest achievements to Prof. Kapila Perera’s exemplary leadership and guidance, and thanks him for his outstanding service as a Senior Professor, a Dean and the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Kapila Perera had been serving as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa from November 2017 to August 2020. Prior to being appointed as the Vice-Chancellor he served as the Dean of the Engineering Faculty and as the Director – Planning of the University. He had also worked as a lecturer on various subjects including Energy Technology and Environment, Fundamentals of Thermodynamics, Energy Sources and Technology and Heat Transfer Applications in Buildings for undergraduate courses and post graduate courses. The University staff and students take great pleasure in extending their sincere congratulation and sincere best wishes to Prof. Kapila Perera on his new appointment.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MORATUWA OBTAINS AN “A” GRADE FOR INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW - 2019

The third cycle of the Institutional review (IR) of University of Moratuwa by the University Grants Commission (UGC) was done in the year 2019. The previous two cycles were successfully conducted in the years 2006 and 2013. The university is privileged to obtain an “A” grade (the highest possible grade) for this year’s institutional review.

AIESEC is a youth leadership movement and is the largest youth-run organization in the world. It was established in 1948 by a group of young individuals from seven different countries after witnessing the horrors of the second world war and since then, has spanned for membership of thousands in 127 different countries. The 8th World Construction Symposium 2019

The 8th World Construction Symposium 2019, under the theme, “Towards a Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Built Environment” was held from 08th-09th November at Galadari Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The symposium was jointly organized by the Building Economics Management and Research Unit (BEMRU) of the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa and the Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB).

Staff of Department of Building Economics wins 3 Awards at 8th World Construction Symposium 2019

The staff of Department of Building Economics, Faculty of Architecture, UoM won 3 awards at 8th World Construction Symposium 2019 BEPAM Best Paper Award Ms. Tharusha Ranadewa, Lecturer, Department of Building Economics and Prof. Yasangika Sandanayake, Head of the same Department, won the BEPAM Best Paper Award for the paper titled “Lean Enabling Human Capacity Building of Small and Medium Contractors in Sri Lanka” 8th World Construction Symposium 2019.

The UoM team won the 1st runner up award in the signal processing cup (SP Cup) 2020 competition attached to the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP), virtually held in Barcelona, Spain, from May 4 to 8, 2020. The winning team comprised of six undergrads of the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering (ENTC), and four undergrads of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Dr. Kriengsak Panuwatwanich, Associate Professor and Head of the School of Civil Engineering Technology, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thammasat University, Thailand, and Mr. Hideki Shimazu and Ms. Kultira Tangtaswa, special representatives from ASEAN University Network/Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network (AUN/SEED-Net) visited the University of Moratuwa (UoM) on 17th January 2020.
