VOLTAGE ’25 – Freshers’ Night Welcomes Batch 24

VOLTAGE ’25, the official Freshers’ Night of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, was held on 29 January 2025 at the Sripalee Banquet Hall, with the participation of the Head of the Department, senior lecturers, and students from Batches 23 and 24. Organized to welcome Batch 24, the evening marked the beginning of their journey as members of the Electrical Engineering family.

Department of Electrical Engineering Congratulates Dr. Rathnayake on Professorship

The Department of Electrical Engineering proudly congratulates Professor Thushara Rathnayake on her promotion as a Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa.
Professor Rathnayake currently serves as the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board (SLAEB). She holds a PhD in Nuclear Engineering and Management and an MSc in Quantum Engineering and Systems Science from the University of Tokyo, Japan, along with a BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa.

Dr. W. D. Prasad Promoted to Professor in Electrical Engineering

Dr. W. D. Prasad has been promoted to the post of Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering (On merit), with effect from 01 November 2024.
Over the years, Prof. Prasad has made notable contributions to teaching, research, and academic leadership in the field of power systems.
He completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, and later earned his PhD from the University of Manitoba, Canada, in 2016.

Dr. Thushara D. Rathnayaka Represents Sri Lanka at Regional SMR Conference in Singapore

Dr. Thushara D. Rathnayaka, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, and Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board, participated in the Second South, Central, and East Asia FIRST Pan-Regional Conference on Advancing the Safe and Secure Deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) held from 29–31 October 2025 in Singapore.
