A Technical Knowledge Sharing Session organized in collaboration with Socomec Innovative Power Solutions Pvt. Ltd. was held on 25th September 2025 at the Seminar Room, Department of Electrical Engineering, with the participation of final-year undergraduates and academic staff.
The Department of Electrical Engineering hosted an enlightening guest lecture titled “Electrical Engineering – World of Opportunities” on 22nd September 2025 at the Seminar Room. The session was attended by students eager to learn about the breadth of career opportunities in the field.
The Electrical Engineering Society of the University of Moratuwa organized a Knowledge Sharing Session with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) on 18th September 2025 via Zoom.
Eng. Saumya Kumarawadu, Project Director of PSSE&REIP, delivered an engaging presentation on the “Sunny Sunday Effect” and the Duck Curve observed in Sri Lanka’s daily load profile. His talk highlighted the operational challenges arising from high solar penetration and the importance of flexible grid management and energy storage solutions.
The Department of Electrical Engineering is pleased to welcome Professor Sarath Perera as a Senior Consultant until August 2025.
Prof. Perera is a distinguished alumnus of the University of Moratuwa, having earned his BSc (Eng) with a specialization in Power Systems. He went on to complete his MEngSc at the University of New South Wales and his PhD at the University of Wollongong, Australia.
Congratulations to Dinithya Gunawardena, Nisal Jagoda, Aditha Pathiraja, and Harjuna Gunawardhana on winning the Eng. E.W. Karunaratna Award for the Best Undergraduate Project in Electrical Engineering (2023/2024), presented by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL).

Organized by the Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc), the event hosted 20 leading companies across sectors such as power and energy, automation, electrical installation, software engineering, and machine learning.
