ERE Success in Winning a Competitive Research Award to Explore Rare Earth Element(REE) Potential in Sri Lanka
Group of academic staff researchers of the Department has won a competitive grant under Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development Operation (AHEAD) for the proposal titled Potential of Rare Earth Elements (REE) in Sri Lankan Onshore and Offshore Terrains and Development of Extraction Techniques.

First-Ever Virtual Felicitations by Staff and Students at ERE
Senior Professor P.G.R. Dharmaratne completed 43 years of excellent service at the University of Moratuwa and retired on 30th Sept.’2021. He was felicitated on the same day with wider participation of former staff members connecting from different destinations
Recommissioning of "Little Beaver" Hydraulic Earth Drill
The Hydraulic Earth Drill bought by the department twenty years back under the ADB Project was repaired and recommissioned with the presence of the Vice-Chancellor; Professor N.D. Gunawardena and Dean-Faculty of Engineering; Professor N.K. Wickramarachchi at University Ground.

Gemmology Diploma Certificate awarding Ceremony was held on the 5th of April 2021, with the presence of Professor P.K.S. Mahanama, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, as the Chief Guest.
