The Association of Commonwealth Universities shares the October edition of Synthesis, featuring the latest news and funding opportunities, along with stimulating events organized by the ACU's members and partners around the Commonwealth.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the International Conference Supporting Grant Scheme 2026, which provides financial assistance to UGC-approved state universities for organizing established international conferences.
Under this scheme, a maximum grant of Rs. 500,000 per conference is available. Up to 90% of the approved grant may be released as an advance payment before the conference. Applications must be submitted through the respective Vice-Chancellor, together with all required supporting documents.
Proposed conferences must demonstrate international participation, including at least 20% foreign keynote speakers and a minimum of 15% international research papers. Preference will be given to conferences that promote international collaboration, research and innovation, the participation of emerging scholars, national development priorities, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Application and Further Information
Interested faculties, departments, institutes, and conference organizers are encouraged to review the scheme guidelines and prepare proposals in accordance with the eligibility criteria and application requirements.

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications from students for the RISE (Research Internships in Science & Engineering) @ IITK, a research internship program offering foreign students the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research across various domains and be mentored by faculty at IIT Kanpur.
RISE @ IITK is divided into two modules – a 4-week virtual winter internship in December 2026 and an offline 6–8-week summer internship in 2027.
Currently, the applications are open for students to apply for the virtual winter internship. A list of available projects is available in the Application Guide (attached to this email) along with the link to the Application Form.
