Dr. H. R Pasidu, Senior Lecturer of Department of Civil Engineering at University of Moratuwa has been appointed as the Director of Engineering Research Unit (ERU) of Faculty of Engineering. ERU was set up in the late 80s with a view to disseminate the knowledge gained through research carried out at the Faculty of Engineering to the Scientific Community at large, and to promote research among Faculty members and Graduate Students. ERU organises the flagship International Multidisciplinary Engineering Research Conference, MERCon, which has been held over seven times with the presence of eminent academics from all over the world.

Department of Civil Engineering (DoCE) is pleased to announce that as of the 15th June 2021, Senior Professor (Mrs.) Chintha Jayasinghe is now the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering. Professor (Mrs.) Jayasinghe is an accomplished academic with an international reputation as a leading Sri Lankan scholar whose research provides considerable insight into the area of construction management, with a specific focus on Sustainable design & Green Building, Earthen construction and indoor air quality.

After 40 years of dedicated service to the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, Professor Priyan Dias is setting his sights on a well deserved retirement from 30th of September 2021. Therefore, the Department of Civil Engineering is organising an online Farewell Lecture delivered by Professor Dias to mark this milestone event.

An article published in PLOS Biology on 08-10-2020 with authors from Stanford University and Elsevier BV is linked to a publicly available database of 100,000 top-ranked scientists, together with the top 2% of scientists for every subfield. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. (Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators (plos.org)).

Professor Priyan Dias delivered the Deshabandu Vidya Jyothi Eng (Dr) ANS Kulasinghe Memorial Lecture at the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka on 26 October 2020. Although his audience at the Wimalasurendra Auditorium comprised no more than 6 individuals due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, it is reported that over 150 persons attended in webinar mode.

H.H.N.D. Haggalla and R.M.A.G.B. Rathnayake of 2015 batch of Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa won the Manamperi Award for the year 2020 (All island 1st and 2nd places) which was awarded by the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) for the most outstanding undergraduate Engineering Research Project

H.H.N.D. Haggalla of 2015 batch of Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, won the Migara Ratnatunge Trust Award (All island 1st place - Category A) for the best trainee civil engineer who portrayed excellent performance at Industrial Training.. R.M.A.G.B. Rathnayake from the same batch won the merit award (Category B)

Ms. Aaruga Selvaratnam, postgraduate student supervised by Dr (Mrs.) J.C.P.H.Gamage, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, won the best oral presentation award on her Undergraduate research project, at 75th Annual sessions of Sri Lanka Association for the Advanced Science 2019 – Session C (Engineering, Architecture, and Surveying) held in University of Colombo on 13th December 2019.

Mr. Sampath Abeygunasekara, post graduate student supervised by Dr (Mrs.) J.C.P.H.Gamage, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, won the best paper award for research Paper titled “ Innovation and fabrication of low-cost three point, cyclic flexural test apparatus for structural engineering laboratory applications” at the international Conference of Civil Enginmeering and Architecture 2020 (ACE) under the theme of “Building the World with Innovative Structures towards a Sustainable Future”held in Swiss Garden Hotel, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malasiya on 12-13 March 2020 .
