Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) is a sporting event held once in three years with the participation of sportsmen and women from all 14 member universities of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA) keeping with the standards and the traditions of Olympic Games.

The first ever SLUG was held in 1980 at the University of Peradeniya and the organization of the event is now rotated among the six old Universities; Colombo, Peradeniya, Moratuwa, Kelaniya, Sri Jayawardenapura and Ruhuna.

Apart from SLUG, annual inter-university sports championships are one of the main important calendar items of all member universities of SLUSA which gives the path for the selection of University colours men and women. The games are organized by all the participating universities and held at various universities or at a venue arranged by the organizing university.

Over the past it was seen that the SLUG transpires hidden talent among the undergraduates and provides a professional platform for students to come out with their skills in sports.  For athletes busy with a heavy academic workload, this mega event ideally spanning over just 11 days gives the opportunity to keep with discipline and very essential qualities inculcated in true men through sports.

The event as a whole does not only bring out the skills of the players but also the greatness of sports itself. It’s the sports which is crowned the ultimate victor in the end. This is a herculean attempt to take University level sports to the next level through the recognition stipulated by this event. We aspire to uplift sports in this country and bring out the true potential of our players even matching National Standards.

11th SLUG is to be held in year 2013 and the University of Moratuwa has the privilege of organizing and hosting the games. All arrangements have been made to hold the event from 2nd to 12th May with the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education, University Grants Commission- Sri Lanka, Vice Chancellor of University of Moratuwa, Prof. Ananda Jayawardena & the University administration, SLUSA and the Sports Advisory Board of the University of Moratuwa.

It is expected that around 5200 sportsmen and women from 14 universities will participate in 22 sports and 35 events.  The main venue of events is the University of Moratuwa including Opening and Closing Ceremonies.   Some games will be held at outside venues such as Sugathadasa Stadium, Mahinda Rajapakse Stadium, University of Sri Jayawardenapura Swimming Pool, Colombo Rowing Club, Sri Lanka Police Grounds, Torrington Sports Ministry Grounds, Havelock Grounds, Piliyandala Central College, Panadura Municipal Grounds,Carrom Federation Sri Lankaand CR&FC Rugby Grounds.
