The University of Moratuwa is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Thanuja Sandanayake as the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology from April 2026.
Professor Thanuja Sandanayake is a senior academic attached to the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of the faculty, and has made significant contributions to teaching, research, academic administration, and student development throughout her career at the University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Technololgy and has established a strong academic reputation in the areas of researh in Educational Technology, Organisational Behaviour, and Social Innovation.
Over the years, Professor Sandanayake has undertaken several key leadership and administrative roles within the University. She has served as the Head of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, Director of Postgraduate Studies, Director of Quality Assuarance and as anAcademic Coordinator of the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) Degree Programme. In addition, she has been serving as a Student Counsellor for more than twelve years, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to student welfare and wellbeing.
Professor Thanuja continues to play an active role in faculty and university administration and has contributed extensively to university governance through her membership in numerous committees and boards. These includethe Senate, the Senate Higher Degrees Committee, the Senate Medical Committee, the Student Counselors Committee, the Career Guidance Coordinators Committee, the Ethics Review Committee, the Board of Studies and the Board of Management of the BIT Degree Programme, and the Board of Graduate Studies. She currently serves as the Chairperson of the University Ethics Review Committee. She has served as the Senior Treasurer of the University of Moratuwa Teachers’ Association for over five years.
Her contributions to student development have been equally noteworthy. She has served as a Student Counsellor, Senior Treasurer of the Faculty of Information Technology Student’s Union for over ten years, and as the Faculty Representative for Career Guidance coordination. Beyond the University, she has contributed as a resource person to a range of organizations, including the Ministry of Education, the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka, University Grants Commission and various public-sector and private sector specifically IT-sector organisaions.
With her extensive experience in academic leadership, governance, quality assurance, student engagement, and strategic development, Professor Sandanayake is well positioned to lead the Faculty of Information Technology into its next phase of growth. Her vision and commitment are expected to further strengthen the Faculty’s excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and industry engagement.
