Senior Professor Ajith de Alwis, Dr. Thushara Subasinghe, and Dr. Poorna Vidanage participated in an engaging and productive discussion on April 1st at the National Science Foundation (NSF) office in Colombo with a Norwegian delegation headed by Prof. Dhayalan Velauthapillai, working on clean energy technologies, including hydrogen. This meeting marked a significant step toward fostering stronger collaboration between Sri Lanka and Norway in advancing sustainable energy solutions.
A key highlight of this discussion was the proposed Master’s program in Hydrogen, a joint initiative led by Western Norway University of Applied Sciences in partnership with the University of Moratuwa, the University of Peradeniya, the University of Ruhuna, and the University of Jaffna, alongside European partners. Having Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) as an associate partner further strengthens this initiative.
As Sri Lanka navigates its energy transition, international cooperation will be crucial in bringing cutting-edge hydrogen technologies and expertise to the region. This conversations laid the groundwork for deeper partnerships in research, education, and innovation, ensuring that Sri Lanka remains at the forefront of clean energy advancements.
